On 12th February 1877, Suckley Board School opened with 51 children attending on the first morning.
At an annual inspection in January 1879, there were 96 children present. Today the school is going from strength to strength and in the last several years has shown a rapid increase in the number of children on its roll which currently stands at 88 pupils, aged 4 to 12 years old.
In the autumn of 2021, the school was visited by the BBC’s Operation Ouch, headed up by Drs Chris, Xand and Ronx. The programme covers all aspects of children’s health and the production team was impressed by the work the school undertook with regard to the children’s mental health and their Forest School sessions. The programme is due to be aired in January 2022.
In August 2011, Suckley Primary School was awarded Academy Status and became Suckley School.
In converting to an Academy, the school has control of its own future and is a charitable company with a long lease on the school buildings and land. However, with a traditional village school building and limited surrounding grounds, there is little opportunity for expansion for the school.
